Orioles Employees Will Be Paid For Missed And Rescheduled Games

 

It’s been a rough month for the the Baltimore Orioles.

As the city has become a regular fixture on news outlets with coverage about civil unrest, protests, and violence, there have been hard-working individuals who have been unable to go to work as a result–including employees who work at Oriole Park.

The baseball club, who famously played a game to an empty stadium last month, did receive some good news for the organization’s employees earlier today.

According to ESPN.com, the Baltimore Orioles will compensate hourly employees who lost wages due to the fall-out of last month’s protests.

Steve Davis from The Norris & Davis Show tweeted out a photo of an official statement from the team:

Due to the extraordinary circumstances that led to several cancelled or rescheduled games, the Orioles organization will compensate all hourly employees for hours that would have been ordinarily worked the week of April 27.

That equates to about six days work of lost wages. However, as USA Today points out, Orioles owner, Peter Angelos and his son, John, have often been considered champions of the working and middle-classwith the later credited for writing an impassioned defense from the perspective of the protestors.

Let’s hope his marks the first of more good things to come for the city.
